Updating the Research Statement
The Research Statement on the School of Medicine profile is a summary of your research accomplishments, current work, and future direction and potential of your work.
To access and update your Research Statement:
Log in to the U-CV application with your uNID and CIS password.
Click on Research>Research Statement
Type or paste your Research Statement (up to 200 words) in the text box. Use Ctrl+Shift+V (Cmd+Shift+V on Mac) to paste text into that field. This will paste only the text you copied without the original formatting and allow for uniformity on the profile. You can also highlight and click the Remove Format button as circled.
Be sure the “Display on U of U Profile Sites” box is checked and Save.
Tips on what to include in your research statement:
Information taken from Johns Hopkins Professional Development and Career Office
Begin your statement with the overarching theme of your past research and how it connects with your future research plans.
Highlight your most important scientific findings and describe promising future directions.
Avoid jargon that faculty outside of your immediate subfield will have difficulty understanding. Try to pitch your research statement to a broad, but informed scientific audience.
Keep your research statement clear and concise. In U-CV and on the SOM profile the limit is 200 words.
